Construction is beginning on a new facility for the Missoula Public Library, replacing its current building, built in 1974. The complex, funded in part by a $30-million voter-approved bond, will also house several other community organizations: Children’s Museum Missoula/Families First, UM spectrUM Science Discovery Center, and Missoula Cable Access Television. At City Club Missoula on July 9, Missoula Public Library Foundation representatives will update attendees on the progress of this major project, the role of a library in the 21st Century, and how the new facility — which currently serves 700,000 library users annually — is expected to transform Missoula’s cultural landscape.
