Election 2020: What just happened?

It is shaping up to be an election not to be forgotten any time soon. With the presidential ticket, and congressional, and local offices at stake for Missoulians in 2020, there is much to consider.

City Club Missoula on Monday, November 9 (11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. via Zoom) will feature a panel of veteran political analysts, who will break down what just happened, and offer commentary on this moment in our political history.

Join us as we analyze the recent election: Who is in? Who is out? What might come next?

 

Panelist

Sally Mauk – Senior News Analyst & MTPR News Director Emeritus

Retired in 2014 but still a presence at MTPR, Sally Mauk is a University of Kansas graduate and former wilderness ranger who has reported on everything from the legislature to forest fires. She also taught broadcast writing and reporting in the University of Montana journalism school.

Robert Saldin – Director, Mansfield Ethics and Public Affairs Program at the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Center, University of Montana

Professor of Political Science at the University of Montana.  Author of several books including Never Trump: The Revolt of the Conservative Elites (Oxford University Press, 2020), co-authored with Steven Teles; When Bad Policy Makes Good Politics: Running the Numbers on Health Reform (Oxford University Press, 2017); and War, the American State, and Politics since 1898 (Cambridge University Press, 2011).  Robert’s articles have also appeared in outlets such as The Journal of Politics, Political Science Quarterly, Journal of Policy History, Political Research Quarterly, and Presidential Studies Quarterly; in addition to The Atlantic, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The New Republic, and National Affairs. Previously, he served as a  Robert Wood Johnson Scholar in Health Policy Research at Harvard University, and with the Patrick Henry Scholar at Johns Hopkins University, and as a Fellow at the Miller Center of Public Affairs, and as Visiting Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley’s Institute of Governmental Studies.
Holly Michels – Statehouse and Political Reporter, Lee Newspapers State Bureau
Covers everything from elections to the Legislature and state government agencies. She’s worked at The Billings Gazette, Helena Independent Record, Montana Standard and Ravalli Republic and is a graduate of the University of Montana School of Journalism.
